Is your Finnish Occupational Safety Card (Työturvallisuuskortti®) about to expire?
If your current card is still valid on the day of the training, you can renew it by completing the shorter 4-hour Occupational Safety Card refresher course instead of taking the full basic course again.
The refresher training is organised completely online in a live virtual classroom. Together with the final examination, the entire session takes approximately 4.5 hours, making it possible to renew your qualification in about half a working day.
After successfully completing the refresher course and final exam, your renewed Occupational Safety Card will be valid for another five years.

The most important requirement is simple:
Your current Occupational Safety Card must still be valid when you attend the refresher course.
The refresher course is specifically designed for people who have already completed Occupational Safety Card training and still hold a valid card.
If your card is valid, you can use the shorter refresher route to update your occupational safety knowledge and renew your qualification for another five years.
You do not need to wait until the final days of the card's validity.
In fact, it is better to book the refresher course in good time before your current card expires.
If your Occupational Safety Card has already expired, you cannot renew it with the 4-hour refresher course.
In that situation, you must complete the full basic Occupational Safety Card training again.
The same applies if:
you have never had an Occupational Safety Card before
your previous card is no longer valid
you cannot meet the eligibility requirements for the refresher course.
The full course takes approximately seven hours plus the final test.
Akkad also provides the full Occupational Safety Card training online in English.

DO NOT LET YOUR OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY CARD EXPIRE
The shorter refresher course is only available while your current card is still valid.
This makes the expiry date important.
If you complete the refresher training before your existing card expires, you can renew your qualification through the shorter 4-hour course.
If you wait until after the expiry date, the refresher option is no longer available and you will need to complete the longer basic course.
Checking your card early can therefore save both time and unnecessary training.
HOW LONG IS THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY CARD VALID?
The Finnish Occupational Safety Card is valid for five years.
After successfully completing the 4-hour refresher course and the required final examination, you receive a renewed Occupational Safety Card that is valid for another five years.
The refresher course leads to the same official Occupational Safety Card qualification as the full basic course.
The difference is that the refresher course is shorter because it is intended for people who already hold a valid Occupational Safety Card and are updating their existing knowledge.
Renewing your Occupational Safety Card through the refresher course is straightforward.
Before registering, check the expiry date of your current Occupational Safety Card.
Your card must be valid on the actual training day — not only when you make the booking.
If it expires before the course date, you will need to take the full basic course instead.
Choose a suitable upcoming online refresher training date and complete the registration.
Have the details of your current Occupational Safety Card available.
The joining link and learning material are sent to your email one day before the course.
The training is held remotely in a live virtual classroom.
You can participate from home, your workplace or another suitable location with an internet connection.
Participate in the entire live training session.
The refresher course reviews and updates the essential occupational safety topics covered by the Occupational Safety Card system.
At the end of the course, you complete the required electronic Occupational Safety Card examination.
After successfully completing the training and examination, your new Occupational Safety Card is issued electronically.
The renewed qualification is valid for another five years.
One of the main advantages of the refresher course is that it can be completed remotely.
There is no need to travel to a training centre.
You can participate in the live online training from anywhere with a suitable internet connection.
This can be particularly useful if:
you live far from a training location
you work in another part of Finland
you want to avoid travelling
you need to renew your card during a working week
your employer has several employees in different locations
you want to complete the renewal in approximately half a working day.
The course is instructor-led and takes place in real time.
It is not an independent self-study course that you complete whenever you want.
Participating in the remote training is straightforward.
You need a device suitable for joining the online training, such as:
a computer
a tablet
a smartphone.
You also need a reliable internet connection and the ability to participate in the live virtual classroom.
The joining link is sent to your email before the course.
You do not need advanced technical skills to participate.
If you have problems joining the training, Akkad can provide support, and we can be contacted by phone or email when necessary.
The refresher training updates the essential skills and knowledge required for safe work in shared workplaces.
The course follows the learning objectives of the Finnish Occupational Safety Card system.
Rather than starting entirely from the beginning, the refresher course focuses on revisiting and updating the most important occupational safety topics.
Shared workplaces can involve employees from several companies, contractors, subcontractors, maintenance personnel and other workers operating in the same environment.
This creates a need for clear responsibilities, communication and common safety practices.
During the refresher course, participants review topics such as:
employer responsibilities
employee responsibilities
cooperation between different organisations
occupational safety responsibilities at shared workplaces
the importance of workplace-specific orientation and instructions.
The aim is to make sure that participants understand their own role in maintaining a safe working environment
One of the key principles of occupational safety is recognising hazards before they cause an accident.
The refresher training reviews how to identify risks and hazards in the working environment.
This includes understanding how working conditions, machinery, equipment, working methods and human behaviour can affect safety.
The course also emphasises proactive safety.
Instead of reacting only after something goes wrong, hazards should be recognised and controlled in advance.
Workplace safety is not only about responding to serious accidents.
Near-miss situations can provide important information about hazards that could cause an accident in the future.
The refresher course reviews:
how to recognise dangerous situations
how to react to a near miss
the importance of reporting safety observations
how accidents can be prevented
how employees can contribute to safer working practices.
Learning from near misses is an important part of developing workplace safety.
Not all workplace risks are caused by machines or physical working conditions.
Human behaviour also has a major effect on occupational safety.
The refresher course addresses topics such as:
attitudes towards safety
safe working habits
attention and concentration
workload
ergonomics
communication
following agreed safety procedures.
A strong safety culture depends on everyday decisions made by everyone at the workplace.
Occupational Safety Card as a digital mobile card – easy setup online
The digital version of the Occupational Safety Card, i.e., the mobile card, is activated in the Korttitieto service, which is maintained by the Centre for Occupational Safety (TTK) and the Finnish Association for Rescue Services (SPEK). The mobile card replaces the physical card completely after 2025, and it is just as valid as the physical version.
How to set up the Occupational Safety mobile card?
1. Go to mobiili.korttitieto.fi
2. Click "request a new password"
3. Add your email address (the same one you used for joining the Safety Card training)
and click "request a new password"
The mobile card will be available for use immediately after confirming the password sent to your email, usually on the same or the next business day
Many international employees working in Finland already have a Finnish Occupational Safety Card and need to renew it before the five-year validity period ends.
The renewal rules are the same regardless of nationality.
The key requirement for the shorter refresher course is the validity of your existing Occupational Safety Card.
If the card is valid, you may use the refresher route.
If the card has expired, you need the full basic course.
If you specifically need full Occupational Safety Card training in English, Akkad provides a separate English-language online course.

remote participation is more practical than travelling
the company wants to reduce time away from normal work.
Companies can also pay for training by invoice.
Available invoicing options include:
