Are you planning to become a taxi driver, renew your taxi driving licence or start your own taxi business in Finland? You might be wondering whether you need to attend training in person or if you can complete the required courses online.
The good news is that most taxi industry training courses in Finland can now be completed remotely.
Online training has made professional education more accessible, especially for people who live outside major cities or need to balance studying with work and family life.
Even with Finland's new taxi training requirements in 2026, there is no general requirement to attend classroom training in person. Traficom-approved courses can be delivered online, although official examinations and certain practical training sessions still require physical attendance.
Which Taxi Training Courses Can Be Completed Online?
The available training options depend on your professional goals and qualifications.
Taxi Driver Basic Training (21 Hours)
From 1 November 2026, new taxi drivers in Finland must complete 21 hours of approved basic training before taking the official taxi driver examination.
The course covers passenger safety, customer service, professional responsibilities and Finnish taxi regulations.
At Akkad, you can complete Taxi Driver Basic Training entirely online over three training days.
After completing the course, you must take the official taxi driver examination at an Ajovarma service point.

Fortunately, Taxi Driver Refresher Training can be completed entirely online in just one day.
There is no separate final examination after completing the refresher course.

Driver Training for Special Passenger Groups
Training for drivers transporting passengers with special needs, including Kela-reimbursed taxi services and healthcare transport, is slightly different.
The 14-hour theory component can be completed online, but the seven-hour practical training must be attended in person.
At Akkad, practical sessions are generally organised in Helsinki.
